Edition Notes
Imprint from colophons.
Illustrations: numerous woodcuts which had all appeared previously in other editions or other works. They include 1 full-page cut, 16 half-page and many smaller. Many of the smaller cuts are repeated. The large cut on first t.p. had been used previously in Eckert's 1503 edition of the life of Christ by Ludolphus de Saxonia. Many of the cuts are from the 1487 Delft edition of the Passionel, others first appeared as replacements for wornout cuts in the 1489 Delft edition. The Delft cuts may have been designed by the Master of the Virgo inter virgines, a Dutch painter who is connected by some authorities with the "second Delft woodcutter." Ornamental initials. Ornamental borderpieces around the small cut on the second t.p. (See: Conway: Woodcutters of the Netherlands, p.276-279 (second Delft woodcutter, no. 9) and p. 282-283 (same, no. 15). Sec: Schretlen, M. J. Dutch and Flemish woodcuts. London, 1925. p. 38-42 and pl. 58A.)
