Book Details

First Sentence

"INTRODUCTION Welcome to the world of video combat. In this world, you will battle numerous aliens, monsters, and assorted foes as they try to destroy you. You will meet them in the depths of intergalactic space, in twisting mazes of computerized mayhem, and in more familiar settings. Your skills in defense and attack will be honed to precision through practice and the tips in this book. The first successful video games were paddleball games introduced in the early 70s. They quickly became a new rage. By today's standards, those games were sadly primitive. The modern video game involves complex computer programs and is a result of current micro-electronic technology. Each game covered in this book is presented with two basic objectives. The first objective is to explain how the game is played, including controls and scoring. Diagrams are provided to make learning easier. The second objective is to provide strategies and tricks to help improve your play. These strategies were developed through personal observations and interviews with great players. These strategies are not the only ways to score big, but they are very effective. Diagrams are provided here too. This book is designed to improve the scores of rookies and warriors alike. However, one quick reading will not transform a rookie into an expert warrior. Only careful study will give the rookie (and some experienced warriors too) some of the tactics and strategies necessary to maximize video scores. Fortunately for you, your life does not depend on your performance, though your pride (and your supply of quarters) may! Along these lines, it is important to relax while playing. Everyone starts out tight and nervous. Video games are very intense. They require you to think, react to rapidly changing situations, and perform complex hand-eye maneuvers. That's why you come out of the video wars sweating and a little charged up. But try to relax; you'll do better."
